Becoming Jane

That's the title of an intriguing movie about Jane Austen's life, starring Anne Hathaway.  Have you seen it?  I love anything and everything about my favorite authoress.  The crafting I've done lately with Tilda's World dolls by Tone Finnanger has motivated me to start designing some of my own.  My first thought was to come up with a Jane Austen-inspired doll.  I created a pattern for the body, arms and legs, then painted on shoes and long gloves.  She started 'becoming Jane' after I added a bun for her hair and a regency-inspired dress made from hand-dyed cheesecloth and vintage lace.

Here my Jane rests next to a pillow and sachet meant for my upcoming spring Etsy line.

She is my 'practice' doll and was such fun to make.  Her mouth and eyes are hand-embroidered.  I'd love to offer dolls like her in my Etsy store as well.

I've also got a glorious bouquet to show you:

My stepmother graciously picked this arrangement out for me, knowing I'd love the soft, vintage-feel colors of the flowers.  What a lovely Easter gift!

I only wish they could last forever.  At least they'll last in these photos I took.

Happy Easter week!

Happy Easter, Susan! Your doll is lovely, as are the flowers. We are big Jane Austen fans around here too. Loved the movie. Did you see the BBC mini series where the girl goes back in time to Jane Austen's England? My daughter and I were glued to the screen.

The title of the mini series was Lost in Austen.
