Merry Christmas

It's been difficult to return to blogging in light of the tragedy in CT.  These days have been spent hugging our children just a little tighter, and praying much.  But I did want to wish you all a blessed and Merry Christmas.  We must mourn deeply for these families, and yet we must also believe in the Hope that Christmas is truly about.  Evil will never have the last word.

I know this blog is mainly about light-weight decorating & crafting - fluff, if you will.  But beyond the fluff of blogs is a desire to make a comfortable and loving home for our families & friends.  Christmas is a special time to brighten up our homes even more - illuminating the authentic spirit of Christmas.
I'm joining Kathleen's Faded Charm Christmas home tour party, in part to keep that spirit alive.

Merry Christmas to you all and blessings for 2013!  Thank you for being wonderful blogging friends.

St. Lucia Blog Procession - Tilda's Christmas World

Today is St. Lucia day!  St. Lucia is traditionally celebrated with a young woman wearing white, bearing lights and sweets.  I am so happy to be participating in my friend Heather's "St. Lucia Blog Procession", where folks are posting about St. Lucia and/or a Scandinavian/Norwegian Christmas theme.
Be sure to visit Heather's blog to learn more and for the whole procession - she is a sweetheart!

I've decided to focus my post on my favorite craft author, Tone Finnanger from Norway, who creates the Tilda's World line.  Ms. Finnanger designs delightful patterns for angel dolls, Christmas dolls, adorable animals and play toys.  The cottage style prints in her fabric line are so crisp and festive!

I've used patterns from the "Tilda's Winter Ideas" book to create these angel dolls, resting on a Tilda's World wire tree:

I decided to give these dolls crocheted braids for hair, and I do think they resemble St. Lucia a bit!

Here is a page from my Tilda's Winter Ideas book, showcasing the angels:

They cheer up our dining room:

The kitchen got some Scandinavian touches with red and white.  Tilda's World Advent calendar boxes and a Santa Girl I made brighten up the ladder:

The Santa Girl was sewn with Tilda's World fabric:

Here is her page in my Winter Ideas book.  She looked so cute next to the coffee cup & treats - I simply had to make her!

This basket holds embroidered sachets and Heather's God Jul postcard with St. Lucia:

Cute Scandinavian-looking skates I got at Target a while ago:

More Tilda's World fabric covers a jar of marshmallows at our Hot Cocoa corner:

Hope you enjoyed this peek into Tilda's Christmas World in my world.  I can't wait to see all the St. Lucia day posts over at Heather's.  Grab some coffee and Kringles, and head over!

Whites and Sparkle in Living Room

Last week I shared half of our Christmas decor in the living room.  Today I'll be sharing the front of the room.  My grain sack chair fits perfectly near the window (see it's transformation here):

Our Advent candles rest on the table inside a wreath of greenery:

These old balusters were adorned with Victorian angel images:

This turned out to be an angel-themed corner, with the mirror above:

I added crepe paper skirts to these angels, inspired by the latest issue of Jeanne D'Arc Living.

We moved the white desk to the front of the room to make room for our Christmas tree in the back:

A vintage-style tree and drawer full of ornaments rest on top:

Some of these vintage ornaments came from my Nesting trip.  The vintage book page of sweet angels was a lovely gift from dear Michelle:

A view toward the front window:

Near the window I simply rested a ruffled tablecloth, our Blessed Mother statue, and some old ornaments & trinkets:

This view upon entry shows an old shelf holding a Christmas village over the couch.

The latest addition to this shelf is a cute Merry Christmas sign from Curious Sofa:

Well, that about does it for the living room.  Hope you enjoyed the mini tour - I really enjoyed decking this 'hall'!
