French Influence

It should be no surprise by now that I'm influenced by all things vintage and French.  My blog's namesakes Evelyn (grandmother) and Rose (great-grandmother) had the last name Labossiere.  Memeire Rose had a heavy French accent and hailed from Quebec.  I loved listening to her soothing voice as a child, and seeing her devotion to the Rosary and her Catholic faith.  She was a talented seamstress and taught her daughter Evelyn well.  Their influence surrounds me in so many ways.  I think they would enjoy that French decor and sewing/knitting/crochet/embroidery projects are embraced in our home.

This bench needed an extra something, so I cross-stitched my initials on it.  My grandmother loved to embroider.  Now this reminds me of something that would have come from an old French sheet.

Small accents...

This chair is one of two found on Ebay 5 years ago.  I love the French look of them.  They were painted ivory, then stapled with linen fabric as a temporary measure.  I think it may soon be time to recover in something lighter...perhaps with a monogram?
And what's more French than these cute urns?

The pillow is made from fabric by Annette Tatum.  I love her designs!

Chippy old shutter...

I'll leave you with some fresh hydrangeas from the garden, comfortably resting in a flea market pitcher on a chippy cabinet.

A lovely vignette and great pieces. I just posted a rattan chair I made slipcovers for and can't decide on whether to paint it or not. I'm really liking yours in white, so thanks for the inspiration.

Oh Susan....I just LUV the grainsack on the bench! I will admit - I'm a grainsack addict! lol! I've channeled the French side of me, too, in the past year. (My grandmother's maiden name was LaVene.) So my farmhouse has slowly morphed into French country farmhouse, and I'm just loving it!!! Your photos are so very pretty with the white chippiness! :)

All your pictures are wonderful, but I love the ones with the blue hydrangeas!

The white chair would be very pretty with the drop cloth that is so popular lately. I'm sure whatever you decide will be wonderful.

Have a great weekend!

This is FABBB!!!! What is your wall color??? It is very similar to mind, just a bit more blue. It's stunning with all the white and little touches of gold (especially that mirror...)

Now following!

What an absolutely gorgeous french vignette Susan! I love every little thing you have there. And adding the shutter is perfection. So do you speak any french at all, did you learn from Memeire Rose? I can already picture her, I'm sure she was wonderful!
