Inspired by Jeanne D'Arc Living

I know so many of you share the enjoyment of the beloved Jeanne D'Arc Living magazines.  I often find myself poring over issues again and again.  I mark the pages with a "someday I'll do that" type of excitement.
One of this year's spring issues had a gorgeous pair of angel wings adorning a vintage dress form.  It definitely appeared handmade, so I thought "I'll try that some day".  Here is the result:

They were simple to make, but a bit tedious.  I reshaped two old wire hangers to make the wing forms and tied them together with twine.  Next I cut some lace netting to fit each form, then sewed the lace around the wire.  (That's the tedious part).  I love how they turned out and am having fun finding places to hang them.  Here they adorn our rustic old barn window in a corner of our living room:

And what are the odds I'd find some vintage towels with my blog initials 'E + R' on them?  Not good.  So Jeanne D'Arc Living also inspired me to cross-stitch some initials on vintage white towels.

I've been pondering the idea of opening an Etsy shop with these kind of handmade items.  Plus I love to make pillows.  Hmmm...much to consider.  Any advice from you dear talented friends would be much appreciated.

And I have to tell you about these cutest miniature jars I found at JoAnn's craft store last week.  They were only $1 each!

Sharing this JDL inspiration with Kathleen's White Wednesday.  I always find much inspiration there as well!

Your wings are adorable. I am so glad your tried as I have thought of and hesitated. I have seen some that are vintage sheet music and I would love to make a pair of them.

Love those wings! At the time of my son's baptism, I wanted to take his picture with wings, like an angel, the photography place didn't have any for boys, just butterfly wings for girls, it never occurred to me that I could make them! That was 8 years ago, but now I know. For the etsy shop, most places sell just the pillow coverings and not the inserts, I say go for it, my pillows sell well at local stores and craft shows. Good luck if you decide to do it.

Your angel wings are just heavenly! (Sorry, couldn't resist the pun!) Love how you have displayed them, and the embroidered towels, as well. I wish that you would open an Etsy shop, you would be a huge hit! Your photographs are awesome, which is oh so important as an Etsy seller. And your creations are gorgeous, too! I love having an Etsy shop, it's so much fun. I think you would love it, too. So, I say go for it!

Very beautiful, Susan. I've had Jeanne d'Arc inspired wings on my list since November. Far too long. Yours turned out great. Thank you so much for your sweet words on my hallway makeover too! To answer your question, I purchased the fabric here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/lovefromhollywood?ref=seller_info

Cindy Jo doesn't have it listed but I'd email her. She recently went through a big move and so much of her stock went into storage. She just may not have relisted it yet.

I think it's possibly the most beautiful publication available! I only wish it were a little more affordable(LOL) I made some angel wings a couple years ago that I saw in Jeanne d' Arc. They were similar to yours, but made from cardboard and vintage sheet music. I love them!
Your photo's are gorgeous, Marcia

These are marvelous! They look just like the ones I've seen in the magazine. Just like you I love to browse in back issues over and over and have post it notes on the pages that have things I want to make. This has definately inspired me to try wings!
