Happy New Year friends! We are back to the books with homeschooling these days, but I wanted to pop over here at the blog and share some winter prettiness. I mentioned in my previous 'Christmas home tour' posts how much I've enjoyed decorating with yarn this year. After taking all the Christmas-specific decorations down, I purposely left up all the yarn. Anything knitted, crocheted or felted makes for a warm and cozy atmosphere.
I had created this pom-pom wreath over our mantel for Christmas, and just left it up after taking off some festive ribbon.
One activity I've been enjoying lately is arm-knitting. Have you heard of it? You knit with your arms instead of needles. I got this book by Anne Weil several months ago and just love it. You can find it at her Etsy shop here or on Amazon.
I'm crazy about the infinity cowls in this book ...
...and this scarf is magnificent!
I stumbled upon arm-knitting a couple of years ago at this fabulous website:
www.simplymaggie.com
I have made several cowls using her easy tutorials, and they are a big hit as gifts.
Another piece I'm crazy about lately is the chunky throw. I knitted this throw for our sofa and it just took a couple of weeks, finding free time here and there.
I used 3 strands of yarn held together for each stitch and size 50 knitting needles found on Etsy. It was a simple knit 4/purl 4 pattern I found here.
I love having knitting projects nearby, like these two long scarfs in the bowl.
One of the projects I tackled from Ms. Weil's book was this pillow cover:
It took no time at all, and makes a nice graphic statement in our living room.
Other winter elements added to our living room are these birch logs and driftwood at the fireplace:
The mantel shelf has felted wool pieces, such as this sheep I made to look like a vintage putz sheep...
...and this little felted wreath I found at the Nesting store last year:
Hope you are all staying cozy this January!

I can honestly say I have never heard of arm knitting! I didn't even know it was a thing! It sounds like it could potentially be a good arm workout tho:)
I love the pillow cover, it looks so pretty in your living room. The throw on your sofa is lovely too!
You're getting really good at this whole knitting thing!
Hi Susan, you have so much wonderful eye candy! Love it all. Jo
Hi Susan. I love the wreath. It looks beautiful in the frame. I so want to try armknitting. It looks fun to do.

I envy your ability to knit! It's one of those things I keep trying but can't seem to master - or I should say successfully complete a stitch. LOL.
Your finished projects make such a nice statement in your room. Making it look so cozy.
Your winter styling all looks so snuggly and cosy Susan. I adore that arm knitted cushion cover too. I think I might have to check out this book when winter comes around for us in July.
I'm delighted to be featuring this post at Shabbilicious Friday tomorrow.
Hugs ~ Kerryanne
Hello Susan! I am another extreme fan of your knitting! I tried knitting with needles once and after I cut off the circulation in my fingers, I decided photography was safer! You have both of these nailed and I love your styling. So very pretty!

Soft, powdery, serene decor. I adore it all. I especially admire the graphic enhancer over the toss pillow and the sheep! Any chance you'll have some on your Etsy page? Love your forever fan..mlg
I missed this beautiful post Susan! I hate it when I don't get around to visiting my friends. I love the arm knitting you've been doing. I really, really want to try this too. There are so many great things to make.
You know how much I love your home, so it's always great for me to see your beautiful posts.
Have a great week sweetie!
