White House and Winter Wonderland

Happy New Year friends!  We're starting off 2014 with a big snowstorm.  The snow stopped falling late this morning, and now it is a glistening winter wonderland.  Looking outside, I'm reminded of how much I love winter when it looks like this.

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas, reflecting on the miracle of our Savior born for us with joy and love.  This merry season always seems to go by much too fast.
I had one last project to show you which I meant to share before Christmas, but time got away from me.  Nevertheless, I still think I can share it now....a winter white house:

I had transformed this white house from something quite different before I placed it in this little corner of our living room:

Are you ready for this 'before' photo???  I found the house last spring at the local thrift store for something like $3.  It did not meet my palette criteria, but I knew I could transform it:

I actually didn't mind the pink so much, but the green roof and red bricks had to go.  So I decided to paint it all white and add some glistening 'snow' here and there...

Next I bleached some tiny green bottle brush wreaths and added vintage tinsel to each.  They got placed on the front windows:

So keep a look out for these old village houses (this ceramic one was from 1982) at your thrift stores and don't be afraid to paint them to your liking!  I may keep this one out for a bit, since it still seems 'wintery'.

Speaking of winter white houses....take a look outside our home today:

Time to go sledding!

I cannot believe how much your home reminds of my Cape Cod home in Chicago! Love it!

Your upcycled project is adorable. Makes me think how many items I passed up and I could have painted them white!

Happy New Year!!

Your snowy home looks just magical, Susan! You must have received "our" snowstorm, we had quite a bit, and now are bitter cold!! Love your house redo, you would never guess it was the same piece! The wreathes on the windows add the perfect touch! Happy New Year!

Both homes are a winter delight!! I did something similar to tiny houses from the Dollar Tree. Who ever paints them in China has as much talent as I do--they were UGLY. But give me some white spray paint, glue, and crystal glitter flakes = sparkling mini-houses on the mantel. Happy New Year and may you and your family be blessed in 2014.♥♫

Love, the transformation you gave the White House from garish tones to the beauty of glittery white, and as for your home what a cottage to love.
All the white of snow and the wreaths dressed the windows beautifully.
Thank you dear friend for taking time to visit my place.

See to soon and all the beauty you create.

Oh Susan, your home is so lovely!!! What a lucky girl you are:) Love your white house! We have a Christmas village that I'm tempted to paint white but don't know how it would go over with the hubs:)

beautiful white house, girl!
I found one this last fall that was not yet painted and I have plans to chalk it and add snow so it is very pale in color but mostly white and glistening with snow! This makes me excited to do it! Love your yellow house. My home is supposed to be "Cream", that is what the name of the color for the steel siding is, but it looks more like a buttery yellow. Everyone says, "Oh, you live in the Yellow house!" I wanted it to be cream, but I finally gave in and started to say, "Yes, the yellow house!" Now I wish I have more white around the windows . LOVE the snow. WE had a frosty fog for two weeks and everything was completely covered in frost. It was gorgeous, but I was sick for those two weeks and wasn't able to get out in the 7 degree weather and take pictures. Hopefully next time tht happens I will be able to get some. Love the softness of your home.
thanks for coming by my blog!
Hugs,
Betsy

What kind of paint did you use on your cute little house? Was is just acrylic craft paint?
