Upstairs in the Attic

This past Monday was spent helping my Mom clean out her attic.  Oh, what memories it brought back.  She is a PACK RAT, and I do believe I've inherited a bit of that.  It was rewarding to help her clear out and purge, and I also got to take home some treasures.

For instance, this is the Christening gown my sisters and I were baptized in.  The little bonnet rests nearby.  Although the dress is yellowed from many years in the attic, it's precious to me.

Up close you can see the sweetest little pearl heart at the bodice.

We also found this old board with vintage wallpaper.  Pretty florals scattered about...

A couple of mismatched shoes we wore as toddlers...

Someday I'd love to own a vintage dress form for display in my own studio...a dream to hold onto.  In the meantime I accepted this old petticoat from my Mom, and will save it for that dress form.  It looks cute hanging from an old hanger for now:

With Valentine's day coming up, I'm starting to think about romantic creations.  Scattering supplies around always help fuel inspiration:

Perhaps I'll use this tea-dyed crepe paper and pink feathers...

...or this sweet lace trim I picked up in Paris last fall, as well as the vintage blue ribbon from Tracey's shop.  So much prettiness to create with!

I'll be sharing over at these great parties:

How wonderful to spend time with your Mom, remembering special times together, and now have these treasures in your home, Susan! Each one is so precious.

My MIL sent me Hubbie's bronzed baby shoes... I'm currently storing craft supplies in them, but they would also be great hanging on the wall or used as a planter for tiny flowers.

Your Valentine's inspiration is so pretty ~ I'm sure you will create something wonderful with it all.

Happy day to you & yours,
Lin

It is so sweet that you were able to share those memories with your mother. I don't think there are words to describe having childhood keepsakes. What joy!
Have a great weekend,

How absolutely precious your dress is. I dream of owning a home with an attic. They don't build homes with attics here, I might just have to MOVE. LOL

Beautiful post, sigh

So nice to have those sweet things as a young child. My mother didn't save any of our things. I have picked up some baby shoes in shops. It brings me back to those days when all small children wore them. It was nice to visit your blog from Common Ground.
Blessings, Diane

That must have been fun rummaging through the attic! I love the way you are displaying the petticoat on the vintage hanger! My girlfriend recently found some marked "Kenmore" which is the road she lives on! She is going to display vintage aprons on them in her kitchen when her home is complete!

I love that you now get to enjoy your sweet little christening gown Susan. It is so sweet and it must have made your mom a little sad to part with it, but happy that you will now be keeper of the memory.
