New Prairie Style magazine available soon!

Hello friends, there's great news to share.  Prairie Style magazine is BACK!  Many of you may recall the inaugural issue 'Romantic Prairie Style' by the talented Fifi O'Neill that came out spring of 2012.  My copy has been read and re-read and the corners are tattered to prove it.  I just adored that issue and Fifi's wonderful book of the same name.
Well.....the magazine is back!!!  I was so delighted and honored to be asked by Fifi to share a few sneak peek photos with you of this upcoming issue.  Take a look....

This table of contents gives you an idea of the delights in store...I'm loving this room below.  There are 9 homes features from coast to coast, as well as Canada!

Prairie style American Flag pillow covers and Tilda's World new blog

Spring is almost here, despite those darn white patches of snow on the ground!  My spring muse has inspired me to design some soft colored rustic pillow covers.  Just listed on Etsy, these have a subtle American flag design, with a little heart in the upper left corner instead of the expected group of stars.

The heart showcases a silver embroidered star patch:

This pillow cover has hand-embroidered red 'stripes', for a quilted affect:

The next photo is of the first pillow cover I made of this design, and I'm debating if I want to keep or sell it:

I used some of Tone Finnanger's Tilda's World fabrics on these pillow covers, and I love their faded soft look.  Speaking of Tilda's World....there's a new blog showcasing the latest and greatest of all things Tilda!

Thank Heavens It's March

The snow on the ground can't melt fast enough for me these days, and I can see from many other blogs that we are all ready for SPRING!
A recent trip to Michael's craft store was just what the doctor ordered.  I replaced the bare tree branches on this table with a new lovely birdcage from Michael's and some faux cherry blossoms from the dollar store.

I'm usually not a fan of faux flowers, but I loved the pale pink color on these and really needed a burst of spring before the real blossoms can be found.

The cute grey birdcage had weathered appeal, even though it's new from Michael's.  I also found these sweet crown bags and some trim (wrapped in what else but a paper birdcage!).  The grey pom-pom trim is what sold me.

The dining room is looking more cheerful, especially with these pretty white tulips from my husband:

I'm also showing my hankering for red embroidery lately...

Last but not least, I updated this little drawer-turned-sideways with some charming tresors:

Getting Personal

It's not often I share personal information here at the blog.  I'd much rather talk about decorating and crafts than myself!  Nevertheless, sweet Kris from Junk Chic Cottage has asked me to share over at her weekly Saturday Spotlight.  I really enjoy reading about other bloggers who I've come to know in this fun blogging world.  It's fun to 'get real' now and then.  In that spirit, I've included a realistic recent photo of myself here, clutter behind me and all.  Although I must confess that I had just returned from the hair salon, so my hair looks better than usual.  :)

Noticing the Little Things

Lately I've been trying to take notice of the little things that bring delight, especially when the winter is cold and snowy.  Sometimes just minor updates to our space can give us a boost.
Here are some recent 'little things' that brought a smile...

1) getting my craft on by making this sweet Napoleon style hat for my Santos cage doll:

It was inspired by Donna O'Brien's creations in the winter issue of Where Women Create,

(my hat is placed on top of the magazine pages with Donna's delights)

and makes a whimsical statement in this corner of our living room:

2) seeing a dash of faded pink fabric in this other corner of our living room....

...along with a grouping of shiny candlesticks:

3)  enjoying the way the winter sunlight reflects off the snow into our living room windows:

4) adding a dash of spring roses to the living room shelf,

with this flea market needlework:

and paper flowers on the reindeer:

His look was inspired by Rachel Ashwell's Couture Prairie book:

Love this book!

5) noticing how my little girl piled her Tilda 'family' together on a chair.  So sweet!

6) putting a personal touch on some fabric for our sofa.  It has my husband's & my initials, the year the house was built and No. 4 for our family of 4:

7) admiring the grey shimmer in a new lampshade by the sofa:

These 7 little things are just details, but all together they bring great cheer!
