Before winter is over, I thought I'd share with you some snippets of my Instagram photos. I find that it's easier and quicker to post there, but I didn't want to leave out those of you who read blogs only. I still enjoy reading blogs myself, so it's important that I share here every now and then. <br />
<br />
Here are some scenes from our busy winter days...<br />
<br />
This photo is of a lap blanket in the works. I really enjoyed knitting this small blanket with big yarn & needles. Just love that chunky look! I used Premier Yarns couture jazz yarn, color 'Milk' and size 50 needles with a simple knit 4/purl 4 pattern. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PomurMYjR_A/WMBxNDw0TZI/AAAAAAAAG5o/kgV1CatKWe0ZKTSh5futgdXuv5Z_34bdgCLcB/s1600/knitting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PomurMYjR_A/WMBxNDw0TZI/AAAAAAAAG5o/kgV1CatKWe0ZKTSh5futgdXuv5Z_34bdgCLcB/s640/knitting.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here it is in our sunny dining room on the vintage settee I re-upholstered. It's a favorite place to sit and read during homeschool hours.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d98fl935GLE/WMBxQif3cMI/AAAAAAAAG5w/T9j-q_kxDCoTDq-78UC2f99fCt9u1zjCwCLcB/s1600/winter%2Bdining.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d98fl935GLE/WMBxQif3cMI/AAAAAAAAG5w/T9j-q_kxDCoTDq-78UC2f99fCt9u1zjCwCLcB/s640/winter%2Bdining.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I always get the knitting/crocheting bug during winter. Other projects I enjoyed making were this tea cozy (a bit too small for this pot, alas) and this crochet basket for our bathroom.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MJ6oquupirY/WMBxOmPzyUI/AAAAAAAAG5s/uzTLcna7cQgc3z6ppcSzKZYEMZ99BP-SwCEw/s1600/tea%2Bcozy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MJ6oquupirY/WMBxOmPzyUI/AAAAAAAAG5s/uzTLcna7cQgc3z6ppcSzKZYEMZ99BP-SwCEw/s640/tea%2Bcozy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gcvol4gl-0s/WMBw6c2z5gI/AAAAAAAAG5Q/NEYYuwB_14g8eb0jy3h8ZGrOo91HqwsGwCEw/s1600/crochet%2Bbasket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gcvol4gl-0s/WMBw6c2z5gI/AAAAAAAAG5Q/NEYYuwB_14g8eb0jy3h8ZGrOo91HqwsGwCEw/s640/crochet%2Bbasket.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The dining room buffet had a simple winter look, with this stencilled chalkboard reindeer:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TdB4xtAu3kI/WMBxBrWyvRI/AAAAAAAAG5Y/n2LOlujaex42A7LxxgfOUqGAAs3P2wvbwCEw/s1600/dining%2Bbuffet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TdB4xtAu3kI/WMBxBrWyvRI/AAAAAAAAG5Y/n2LOlujaex42A7LxxgfOUqGAAs3P2wvbwCEw/s640/dining%2Bbuffet.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
One exciting addition to this room is a new-to-us farmhouse table! We found it on craigslist in January after searching for months. It's the perfect wood tone and size for us, and even has a drawer at each end! The table is not terribly old (probably 20-30 years), but it was found in an antique store in England by the previous owner. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wkPLhsvKJ0c/WMBxFGzcbNI/AAAAAAAAG5c/gXIXfin3Wq4_ElanCO1u3tV9Wzd6Q7-AQCEw/s1600/farmhouse%2Btable.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wkPLhsvKJ0c/WMBxFGzcbNI/AAAAAAAAG5c/gXIXfin3Wq4_ElanCO1u3tV9Wzd6Q7-AQCEw/s640/farmhouse%2Btable.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I'm still loving our German-smeared fireplace, too. Here it is with simple winter decor, but I'm already making changes to it for spring:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Hc4fUz7Ct7k/WMBxITuUFCI/AAAAAAAAG5g/8K5FF-Gv4wUsOTa6cEVpBM9ALmq32Y5kwCEw/s1600/fireplace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Hc4fUz7Ct7k/WMBxITuUFCI/AAAAAAAAG5g/8K5FF-Gv4wUsOTa6cEVpBM9ALmq32Y5kwCEw/s640/fireplace.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Flowers always cheer the winter days, and these were some favorites during Valentine's week:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P_9TK-7aGLM/WMBw-ZrrJJI/AAAAAAAAG5U/ZwlqEymvfLg6YrolByOklG7vnMv355uTwCEw/s1600/Valentine%2Btable.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P_9TK-7aGLM/WMBw-ZrrJJI/AAAAAAAAG5U/ZwlqEymvfLg6YrolByOklG7vnMv355uTwCEw/s640/Valentine%2Btable.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tg_dbqSNR0M/WMBxKDOEYqI/AAAAAAAAG5k/4zyr8DOH27872NoYKO2xkv3db9f3yf4WwCEw/s1600/flowers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tg_dbqSNR0M/WMBxKDOEYqI/AAAAAAAAG5k/4zyr8DOH27872NoYKO2xkv3db9f3yf4WwCEw/s640/flowers.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I finished up stenciling some dining chairs that we scored on craigslist last fall. I used a faux grain sack stencil, hemp sheets, grain sack and burlap on these various chairs. Still need to trim out some of the bottoms, but they're a big improvement in here! We had sold our dark furniture last fall, and this room is so much brighter and more welcoming.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p7Xzs36-1LU/WMBw5xJaswI/AAAAAAAAG5M/nXbx6z-bmoMNPvEP-uSbTdOlCy5fQ58BQCEw/s1600/chair%2BCollage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p7Xzs36-1LU/WMBw5xJaswI/AAAAAAAAG5M/nXbx6z-bmoMNPvEP-uSbTdOlCy5fQ58BQCEw/s640/chair%2BCollage.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
That's a wrap for winter. Hope you enjoyed these Instagram pics. I'll be back sooner to share SPRING! <br />
xoxo,<br />

As you'll see, plaid flannel made quite an appearance in here. I went for more of a rustic farmhouse theme.<br />
Welcome to our living room...here's the view as you enter the room:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RFtgN81Lo30/WFLSUZOdxgI/AAAAAAAAG2U/83CBzEk6-YknLoA7U1Ph890EUn4fNqrUwCLcB/s1600/entry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RFtgN81Lo30/WFLSUZOdxgI/AAAAAAAAG2U/83CBzEk6-YknLoA7U1Ph890EUn4fNqrUwCLcB/s640/entry.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This year we decided to put the tree near the fireplace instead of in that back corner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7PoV-IGLzWs/WFLSVLVFM4I/AAAAAAAAG3k/aIH1uL8HOBM3RqGe4Jrj3wGykXVvNWWoQCEw/s1600/entry%2Bcouch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7PoV-IGLzWs/WFLSVLVFM4I/AAAAAAAAG3k/aIH1uL8HOBM3RqGe4Jrj3wGykXVvNWWoQCEw/s640/entry%2Bcouch.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I put some pillows I have for sale in my <a href="http://www.evelynandrose.etsy.com/">Etsy shop</a> on the couch for this photo shoot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PRqRdMgMK5g/WFLSUvMtcoI/AAAAAAAAG3k/TfqoIVQ7IK8G7LkhLouCYqPTkOXpQvkogCEw/s1600/entry%2Bcouch%2Bclose.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PRqRdMgMK5g/WFLSUvMtcoI/AAAAAAAAG3k/TfqoIVQ7IK8G7LkhLouCYqPTkOXpQvkogCEw/s640/entry%2Bcouch%2Bclose.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Above the couch is my favorite vintage shelf, decorated with a winter forest theme.<br />
I have decorated with the sitting paper mache reindeer in previous years, but it was brown. This year I acquired a similar one, covered in gold sparkle. I decided to paint them both white.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PTIdim9pRRg/WFLSyHwimnI/AAAAAAAAG3k/c81GX8o96uI1C8Hx6sNRAz7ac57wW9JvgCEw/s1600/reindeer%2Bcloseup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PTIdim9pRRg/WFLSyHwimnI/AAAAAAAAG3k/c81GX8o96uI1C8Hx6sNRAz7ac57wW9JvgCEw/s640/reindeer%2Bcloseup.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Still adore this rustic grain sack stocking I made a few years ago:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QtkjwQvNukg/WFLSzlBdw3I/AAAAAAAAG3k/U_1pJqo8W-I3K_5Z7s1ajlZdc-dCVKtTACEw/s1600/reindeer%2Bshelf%2Bcloseup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QtkjwQvNukg/WFLSzlBdw3I/AAAAAAAAG3k/U_1pJqo8W-I3K_5Z7s1ajlZdc-dCVKtTACEw/s640/reindeer%2Bshelf%2Bcloseup.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
In front of the couch, our vintage trunk (which I painted last year with <a href="http://evelynandrose.blogspot.com/2015/06/trunk-makeover-with-mms-milk-paint.html">MMS Shutter Gray milk paint</a>) holds some vintage books and our Advent wreath.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UC82yBTNvnI/WFLS_oc0HgI/AAAAAAAAG3k/L5efYu8rA1APtfpTVrITiYkAuEY4F5xcACEw/s1600/trunk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UC82yBTNvnI/WFLS_oc0HgI/AAAAAAAAG3k/L5efYu8rA1APtfpTVrITiYkAuEY4F5xcACEw/s640/trunk.jpg" width="480" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">(the book on top is of Christmas Stories by Charles Dickens)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FNM_DkQWAMQ/WFLS96cvA_I/AAAAAAAAG3k/wxEa8FYJTb8P0ubfCS91Nbyrw0r0DtacACEw/s1600/trunk%2Btop.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FNM_DkQWAMQ/WFLS96cvA_I/AAAAAAAAG3k/wxEa8FYJTb8P0ubfCS91Nbyrw0r0DtacACEw/s640/trunk%2Btop.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Instead of our tree being in the back corner, I set up this vintage chair, table, shutter, and ladder. This is definitely where the 'mad for plaid' theme was showcased. I picked up that comfy wool throw at HomeGoods this fall, and hung some plaid fabrics on the ladder. My favorite blue Shiny Brite ornaments look lovely tucked in their box.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yv9QRfcvhqU/WFLRsDsUAnI/AAAAAAAAG3k/kiBs9ZwOC7wMNqyZp6E9QTx-1Kvvd-bJwCEw/s1600/back%2Bcorner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yv9QRfcvhqU/WFLRsDsUAnI/AAAAAAAAG3k/kiBs9ZwOC7wMNqyZp6E9QTx-1Kvvd-bJwCEw/s640/back%2Bcorner.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Now if you turn around, you'll see our fireplace wall. Notice a difference in the bricks???<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qoci0F2YSuw/WFLS3DsT0KI/AAAAAAAAG3k/pe-uJlkCMRUGrHLbIyeqaAgw5JC3tTbzgCEw/s1600/tree%2Bwall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qoci0F2YSuw/WFLS3DsT0KI/AAAAAAAAG3k/pe-uJlkCMRUGrHLbIyeqaAgw5JC3tTbzgCEw/s640/tree%2Bwall.jpg" width="528" /></a></div>
<br />
The fireplace has been 'German-smeared'!! I guess that's what Joanna Gaines calls it. Basically, I researched some brick treatments on Pinterest and found this technique. I simply filled in the mortar lines with thin-set white mortar (found pre-mixed at Home Depot), and rubbed some on the surface of the bricks as well. If you want to see what our fireplace looked like before, see <a href="http://evelynandrose.blogspot.com/2016_01_01_archive.html">this post</a>.<br />
<br />
What do you think? I also had fun hanging our reindeer on a rustic old wood panel and decking him out with a plaid scarf. This 'olde farmhouse' sign was for sale at the Vintage Bazaar this fall, but I'm keeping it for now.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fYZvsSFTzLQ/WFLSgZNpquI/AAAAAAAAG3k/U9jW6vReOXkDNOz3VECEr356JoyzJGq_wCEw/s1600/fireplace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fYZvsSFTzLQ/WFLSgZNpquI/AAAAAAAAG3k/U9jW6vReOXkDNOz3VECEr356JoyzJGq_wCEw/s640/fireplace.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Two new additions to the mantel this year are this battery-lit snow-covered house, and this sweet white church ornament (50 cents at the thrift store!).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BKEouQVkMGU/WFLSfY0zPRI/AAAAAAAAG3k/vv00-o-qZhY6U4dUYEt5MhBvbrLQjCWfQCEw/s1600/fireplace%2Bwhite%2Bhouse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BKEouQVkMGU/WFLSfY0zPRI/AAAAAAAAG3k/vv00-o-qZhY6U4dUYEt5MhBvbrLQjCWfQCEw/s640/fireplace%2Bwhite%2Bhouse.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Next to the fireplace I placed a chair holding a basket of sachets for sale in <a href="http://www.evelynandrose.etsy.com/">Etsy</a>. I also tucked in some cute reindeer bags with plaid flannel for ties.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ye35-55IaJ0/WFLR9P04YEI/AAAAAAAAG3k/NxWNM3-IMRMMPJDMzzU4-iuhYn-gzE1owCEw/s1600/chair%2Bsachets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ye35-55IaJ0/WFLR9P04YEI/AAAAAAAAG3k/NxWNM3-IMRMMPJDMzzU4-iuhYn-gzE1owCEw/s640/chair%2Bsachets.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
"Mad for plaid" under the tree, too! I focused on plaid and brown kraft paper wrapping this year:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dipbQqHImx4/WFLh0FLZI3I/AAAAAAAAG3s/YJM12u74eJo2CzVzdS0_TInxyWCcTCO_gCLcB/s1600/DSCN9673%2Bfor%2BIG.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dipbQqHImx4/WFLh0FLZI3I/AAAAAAAAG3s/YJM12u74eJo2CzVzdS0_TInxyWCcTCO_gCLcB/s640/DSCN9673%2Bfor%2BIG.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Behind the tree is our bookshelf. I didn't add too much decor to this shelf, considering we use it to store the childrens' reading books nowadays. It's filled with the classics for our homeschool.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MeqPt0VwmcQ/WFLR4c-TO_I/AAAAAAAAG3k/E_vmM5cckF4RhHyuElj_lshcNxe6JFYbACEw/s1600/bookshelf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MeqPt0VwmcQ/WFLR4c-TO_I/AAAAAAAAG3k/E_vmM5cckF4RhHyuElj_lshcNxe6JFYbACEw/s640/bookshelf.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Plus some cute nutcrackers:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HHSIeLK3Xfo/WFLR4BlL8LI/AAAAAAAAG3k/s_9t998nZ_wTM3l8cJLSO8qs8r359Sm6wCEw/s1600/bookshelf%2Bnutcrackers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HHSIeLK3Xfo/WFLR4BlL8LI/AAAAAAAAG3k/s_9t998nZ_wTM3l8cJLSO8qs8r359Sm6wCEw/s640/bookshelf%2Bnutcrackers.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />

Just an interesting note...see that blue book behind the sparkly Santa below? It is called 'On Being Catholic' and is written by a dear friend of ours, Dr. Thomas Howard. He and his wonderful wife are fellow parishioners at our church. I met his wife through our parish Bible study (which she runs) and my husband delights in meeting regularly with Dr. Howard to discuss literature. You can read about his amazing conversion story in <a href="http://www.ignatius.com/Products/LKL-P/lead-kindly-light.aspx">"Lead, Kindly Light"</a>. I want to be like them when I grow up!<br />

A vintage door and table rest on the other side of the fireplace:<br />

<br />
I placed a sled that I found on clearance at JoAnn's (after Christmas last year) on this table. It's been painted white and decorated with greens and a lovely ribbon given to me by dear friend <a href="http://www.petitemichellelouise.blogspot.com/">Michelle</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iELXM2UQ28U/WFLTKJljZBI/AAAAAAAAG3k/5kokmBByb6YNyNJ2_XU-KgfKcfQJTaQoACEw/s1600/white%2Btable%2Bsled.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iELXM2UQ28U/WFLTKJljZBI/AAAAAAAAG3k/5kokmBByb6YNyNJ2_XU-KgfKcfQJTaQoACEw/s640/white%2Btable%2Bsled.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This table also holds this sweet box of vintage ornaments I scored for $3 at our thrift store! I added the tissue to cushion the bulbs. Just love each one's string hanger, too!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I know it's been ages since I've posted, but better late than never for 2016. I couldn't let the year go by without posting Christmas decor. I just finished some updates to our dining room, and am ready to share. <br />
<br />
First off....we sold our mahogany dining room furniture! Table, chairs, buffet - all gone! We sold them to some happy folks via Craigslist. If you recall, our dining room used to look like <a href="http://evelynandrose.blogspot.com/2015/04/feature-in-romantic-country.html">this</a>.<br />
<br />
Here it is today:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hmoQKfvBV8s/WE3dMLNEYyI/AAAAAAAAG0o/STNx9dfYu5YI7GNK2S2nUga6xPDl8WWkwCLcB/s1600/dining%2Bentry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hmoQKfvBV8s/WE3dMLNEYyI/AAAAAAAAG0o/STNx9dfYu5YI7GNK2S2nUga6xPDl8WWkwCLcB/s640/dining%2Bentry.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Right now we have our kitchen table in here until we find a new dining table. We're looking for an old farmhouse table, hopefully authentic and well-loved. My husband reminds me not to 'settle' on it, so I'm patiently looking. This cute vintage kitchen table functions fine in the meantime:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eEpHXWoJPYg/WE3dNTuO0uI/AAAAAAAAG1Q/AvqbipVRLw8Ezr4Y2UgY0G3hqy3WJlOTgCEw/s1600/dining%2Btable.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eEpHXWoJPYg/WE3dNTuO0uI/AAAAAAAAG1Q/AvqbipVRLw8Ezr4Y2UgY0G3hqy3WJlOTgCEw/s640/dining%2Btable.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The 4 dining chairs were scored off Craigslist over a year ago, and I finally painted them this fall. The color is Sea Breeze by Benjamin Moore. I kept the same slipcovers from our former dining chairs, and they fit just fine!<br />
Here's a close up of the back of a chair. I made a simple decoration with upholstery webbing, a $1 reindeer ornament from ACMoore, and a plaid bow I found a Dollar Tree (3 for $1). Easy!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mOw0xLRqyI8/WE3csCa7XWI/AAAAAAAAG08/b1e1iY3gVUUHTKc3CH6wkq15QdjxHSlFgCEw/s1600/chair%2Bdecor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mOw0xLRqyI8/WE3csCa7XWI/AAAAAAAAG08/b1e1iY3gVUUHTKc3CH6wkq15QdjxHSlFgCEw/s640/chair%2Bdecor.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Tucked behind the table you'll see a new-to-us settee.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zzPjWzr8PDY/WE3dIo2LfrI/AAAAAAAAG0k/AYQ1EIYwJcE5tOvv_t66B8711ZoK3atlQCEw/s1600/dining%2Bentry%2Bcloser.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zzPjWzr8PDY/WE3dIo2LfrI/AAAAAAAAG0k/AYQ1EIYwJcE5tOvv_t66B8711ZoK3atlQCEw/s640/dining%2Bentry%2Bcloser.jpg" width="480" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">(see that runner on table? It's a $3 clearance valance from Homegoods!)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
The settee was part of a parlor set I also found on Craigslist last month - one settee, two side chairs and one arm chair. They've all been painted Sea Pearl, and the chairs are in the garage awaiting new upholstery. I did find time to upholster this settee right after Thanksgiving. I used a hemp sheet from <a href="http://www.missmustardseed.com/">Miss Mustard Seed</a> for the seat and front. I attempted to tuft the front, but it isn't perfect. I also added a loveseat cushion I found on Amazon, which adds height and protects the hemp sheet from stains.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PKtYLTnqIjM/WE3dZdGhk6I/AAAAAAAAG00/U9CnDVH7paI82FUQ3mT2vAOum_7tjfAZwCEw/s1600/settee.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PKtYLTnqIjM/WE3dZdGhk6I/AAAAAAAAG00/U9CnDVH7paI82FUQ3mT2vAOum_7tjfAZwCEw/s640/settee.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
You may recognize the pillow on the settee - it's a Society 6 purchase from Miss Mustard Seed's watercolor <a href="https://society6.com/missmustardseed">collection</a>! She's so talented. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4LGCMZdzDL4/WE3dY5pQUkI/AAAAAAAAG1Q/QnpSX_hzQTE9oCt7t7iGZ9CgVjsHL6AnQCEw/s1600/settee%2Bpillow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4LGCMZdzDL4/WE3dY5pQUkI/AAAAAAAAG1Q/QnpSX_hzQTE9oCt7t7iGZ9CgVjsHL6AnQCEw/s640/settee%2Bpillow.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I thought the pillow went well with my paper mache rocking horse nearby. And this year we put a real tree in here! It sits atop a Craigslist carpenter trunk. The trunk isn't too old but I loved the gray color and vintage feel (and storage for homeschool stuff!). I also knitted a chunky tree skirt, inspired by Maria of <a href="http://www.dreamywhitesonline.com/">Dreamy Whites</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2dbJlw8VRHA/WE3c_SjiLaI/AAAAAAAAG1Q/wzlDc4V0fO8wUf3SxUOcRbvc-fIml1JogCEw/s1600/dining%2Bcorner%2Btree.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2dbJlw8VRHA/WE3c_SjiLaI/AAAAAAAAG1Q/wzlDc4V0fO8wUf3SxUOcRbvc-fIml1JogCEw/s640/dining%2Bcorner%2Btree.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's the view from another corner. That huge wreath was a $5 thrift store find, and I raised my two gray shutters to hang alongside the window. Now the window looks bigger and has more impact.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-olrpeEbxOkc/WE3dBBG1K8I/AAAAAAAAG1Q/NC9wVCX-rYEooTyVmkshsE94gvXw6Ct0wCEw/s1600/dining%2Bcorner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-olrpeEbxOkc/WE3dBBG1K8I/AAAAAAAAG1Q/NC9wVCX-rYEooTyVmkshsE94gvXw6Ct0wCEw/s640/dining%2Bcorner.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Back in the corner you see our white cabinet. Here's a closer look:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zn__pe30jag/WE3c82jLITI/AAAAAAAAG1Q/B-n3XnKnwXc74h7WA3e8Cb8FKDnd4yX-wCEw/s1600/corner%2Bcabinet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zn__pe30jag/WE3c82jLITI/AAAAAAAAG1Q/B-n3XnKnwXc74h7WA3e8Cb8FKDnd4yX-wCEw/s640/corner%2Bcabinet.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I went with a soft white and sparkle theme here, with some touches of yarn creations.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-B_W-HqQLc6I/WE3c15UTXLI/AAAAAAAAG08/W16J_ZgdM4QfwmI5HwK52HkGqoFaT4XQgCEw/s1600/corner%2Bcabinet%2Bupper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-B_W-HqQLc6I/WE3c15UTXLI/AAAAAAAAG08/W16J_ZgdM4QfwmI5HwK52HkGqoFaT4XQgCEw/s640/corner%2Bcabinet%2Bupper.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nl-qHkVfrt8/WE3c0jGP0UI/AAAAAAAAG08/WJKdq7A351sQLOVuDCWZjzBLIWRMuEOYwCEw/s1600/corner%2Bcabinet%2Blower.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nl-qHkVfrt8/WE3c0jGP0UI/AAAAAAAAG08/WJKdq7A351sQLOVuDCWZjzBLIWRMuEOYwCEw/s640/corner%2Bcabinet%2Blower.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Love this new ornament I found at Marshalls:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
On the other side of the room stands our homeschool dresser. It is packed to the brim with homeschool books and supplies inside, but I cleared off the top for Christmas!<br />
<br />

Hope you're enjoying your Advent season, friends. I'll be back to share the living room soon. Yesterday I finished a project in there that's been on my to-do list forever. I 'German-smeared' our fireplace bricks! Susan EvelynAndRosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05946796851012314106noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9184498705705663380.post-4105674697083966672016-01-12T14:51:00.000-05:002017-01-19T15:25:39.178-05:00Arm Knitting and Winter StylingHappy New Year friends! We are back to the books with homeschooling these days, but I wanted to pop over here at the blog and share some winter prettiness. I mentioned in my previous 'Christmas home tour' posts how much I've enjoyed decorating with yarn this year. After taking all the Christmas-specific decorations down, I purposely left up all the yarn. Anything knitted, crocheted or felted makes for a warm and cozy atmosphere.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pEN9oMsTs9E/VpVQkYNNgDI/AAAAAAAAGyg/T7ZSdFm0tZg/s1600/winter%2Bfireplace%2Bframe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pEN9oMsTs9E/VpVQkYNNgDI/AAAAAAAAGyg/T7ZSdFm0tZg/s640/winter%2Bfireplace%2Bframe.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I had created this pom-pom wreath over our mantel for Christmas, and just left it up after taking off some festive ribbon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JfBxt99KhBA/VpVQvpA5sII/AAAAAAAAGzA/eJpm3vZaVfA/s1600/winter%2Bfireplace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JfBxt99KhBA/VpVQvpA5sII/AAAAAAAAGzA/eJpm3vZaVfA/s640/winter%2Bfireplace.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
One activity I've been enjoying lately is arm-knitting. Have you heard of it? You knit with your arms instead of needles. I got this book by Anne Weil several months ago and just love it. You can find it at her Etsy shop <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/flaxandtwine?ref=l2-shopheader-name">here</a> or on Amazon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zj7uyglIfR8/VpVQaZ4q8DI/AAAAAAAAGyQ/duidOgu3mDA/s1600/knitting%2Bbook.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zj7uyglIfR8/VpVQaZ4q8DI/AAAAAAAAGyQ/duidOgu3mDA/s640/knitting%2Bbook.jpg" width="516" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm crazy about the infinity cowls in this book ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nE5w7boYoWE/VpVQW3iGKiI/AAAAAAAAGyI/D5NgML4NiBA/s1600/knitting%2Bbook%2Bcowls.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nE5w7boYoWE/VpVQW3iGKiI/AAAAAAAAGyI/D5NgML4NiBA/s640/knitting%2Bbook%2Bcowls.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O6tl1SPytIo/VpVQWOoJEmI/AAAAAAAAGx4/HgiQiaD3ohc/s1600/knitting%2Bbook%2Bcowl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O6tl1SPytIo/VpVQWOoJEmI/AAAAAAAAGx4/HgiQiaD3ohc/s640/knitting%2Bbook%2Bcowl.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
...and this scarf is magnificent!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZpE5mdAPivc/VpVQWzUwW5I/AAAAAAAAGyE/9PGbQKyC1-Y/s1600/knitting%2Bbook%2Bscarf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZpE5mdAPivc/VpVQWzUwW5I/AAAAAAAAGyE/9PGbQKyC1-Y/s640/knitting%2Bbook%2Bscarf.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I stumbled upon arm-knitting a couple of years ago at this fabulous website:<br />
<a href="http://www.simplymaggie.com/">www.simplymaggie.com</a><br />
I have made several cowls using her easy tutorials, and they are a big hit as gifts.<br />
<br />
Another piece I'm crazy about lately is the chunky throw. I knitted this throw for our sofa and it just took a couple of weeks, finding free time here and there. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lV6nsdi9Cck/VpVQgkiWr6I/AAAAAAAAGyY/LjH-SpdVJo8/s1600/knitting%2Bthrow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lV6nsdi9Cck/VpVQgkiWr6I/AAAAAAAAGyY/LjH-SpdVJo8/s640/knitting%2Bthrow.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I used 3 strands of yarn held together for each stitch and size 50 knitting needles found on Etsy. It was a simple knit 4/purl 4 pattern I found <a href="http://www.lynneknowlton.com/wool-blanket-pattern/">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vn5qtaOJiKg/VpVQ1jUM71I/AAAAAAAAGzQ/GcmV2uvpFO4/s1600/winter%2Bliving%2Broom%2Bsofa.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vn5qtaOJiKg/VpVQ1jUM71I/AAAAAAAAGzQ/GcmV2uvpFO4/s640/winter%2Bliving%2Broom%2Bsofa.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I love having knitting projects nearby, like these two long scarfs in the bowl.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HVu9FEelZyQ/VpVQ6854RRI/AAAAAAAAGzY/1F8Q8AdZEms/s1600/winter%2Bliving%2Broom%2Btable.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HVu9FEelZyQ/VpVQ6854RRI/AAAAAAAAGzY/1F8Q8AdZEms/s640/winter%2Bliving%2Broom%2Btable.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
One of the projects I tackled from Ms. Weil's book was this pillow cover:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1RA5qOvxvsU/VpVQyfy_6JI/AAAAAAAAGzI/DzQPLvZdYi4/s1600/winter%2Bliving%2Broom%2Bpillow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1RA5qOvxvsU/VpVQyfy_6JI/AAAAAAAAGzI/DzQPLvZdYi4/s640/winter%2Bliving%2Broom%2Bpillow.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It took no time at all, and makes a nice graphic statement in our living room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OnjGuymw6FQ/VpVQ7s6n0_I/AAAAAAAAGzg/OtRWgWVVrFo/s1600/winter%2Bliving%2Broom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OnjGuymw6FQ/VpVQ7s6n0_I/AAAAAAAAGzg/OtRWgWVVrFo/s640/winter%2Bliving%2Broom.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Other winter elements added to our living room are these birch logs and driftwood at the fireplace:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ig5EgqoayZ0/VpVQj3BDprI/AAAAAAAAGyk/rMBWZiyHAyA/s1600/winter%2Bfireplace%2Bcrate.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ig5EgqoayZ0/VpVQj3BDprI/AAAAAAAAGyk/rMBWZiyHAyA/s640/winter%2Bfireplace%2Bcrate.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The mantel shelf has felted wool pieces, such as this sheep I made to look like a vintage putz sheep...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EbDAPFLAAzQ/VpVQszuCGeI/AAAAAAAAGy4/xgFvUOSziDA/s1600/winter%2Bfireplace%2Bsheep.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EbDAPFLAAzQ/VpVQszuCGeI/AAAAAAAAGy4/xgFvUOSziDA/s640/winter%2Bfireplace%2Bsheep.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
...and this little felted wreath I found at the <a href="http://www.nestingonmain.com/">Nesting</a> store last year:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a142R4_BkRc/VpVQnXkzDqI/AAAAAAAAGyw/ThCTXqvrEWM/s1600/winter%2Bfireplace%2Bhouse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a142R4_BkRc/VpVQnXkzDqI/AAAAAAAAGyw/ThCTXqvrEWM/s640/winter%2Bfireplace%2Bhouse.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Hope you are all staying cozy this January!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hWnOInuJ-Sk/VnMwNetxuAI/AAAAAAAAGxg/0AspuEJSSp0/s1600/wreath.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hWnOInuJ-Sk/VnMwNetxuAI/AAAAAAAAGxg/0AspuEJSSp0/s640/wreath.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I kept the table-top simple, since we use it everyday for homeschool:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3t2YtAC-ad4/VnMwKHgccoI/AAAAAAAAGxY/D7jyNMS7ZOk/s1600/table%2Bview.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3t2YtAC-ad4/VnMwKHgccoI/AAAAAAAAGxY/D7jyNMS7ZOk/s640/table%2Bview.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The kids appreciate this fun centerpiece of miniature reindeer in little 'snow globes' I made from our glassware.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zQnhX4s1Bw8/VnMv--TgBHI/AAAAAAAAGxE/M512pP6L74E/s1600/table%2Bcenterpiece.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zQnhX4s1Bw8/VnMv--TgBHI/AAAAAAAAGxE/M512pP6L74E/s400/table%2Bcenterpiece.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
In the corner is our cupboard, decked out with a faux garland and nativity scene.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I like mixing vintage ironstone with sparkly elements here, and thought this handmade crochet garland would look sweet up top:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
This is the first Christmas with our vintage shoe rack. I just added a pom-pom garland, greenery and some bottle-brush trees to make it festive. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WOcF3z_K_ho/VnMv04zWPUI/AAAAAAAAGw4/8d1uoIVlKD8/s1600/shoe%2Brack.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WOcF3z_K_ho/VnMv04zWPUI/AAAAAAAAGw4/8d1uoIVlKD8/s640/shoe%2Brack.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w1RrdBZfOO4/VnMvqXdfh_I/AAAAAAAAGwg/Kdt9Fnw9K_8/s1600/shoe%2Brack%2Bpom%2Bpoms.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w1RrdBZfOO4/VnMvqXdfh_I/AAAAAAAAGwg/Kdt9Fnw9K_8/s640/shoe%2Brack%2Bpom%2Bpoms.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NofVmlzBwko/VnMv0cPU8fI/AAAAAAAAGw0/baWMDeWi0X4/s1600/shoe%2Brack%2Bsoaps.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NofVmlzBwko/VnMv0cPU8fI/AAAAAAAAGw0/baWMDeWi0X4/s400/shoe%2Brack%2Bsoaps.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I also added this sign I made from salvage wood & touched up with chalkboard paint:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Y313Ry5ybr4/VnMvzpjq4QI/AAAAAAAAGwo/9z6yTrqR6YE/s1600/shoe%2Brack%2Bsign.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Y313Ry5ybr4/VnMvzpjq4QI/AAAAAAAAGwo/9z6yTrqR6YE/s640/shoe%2Brack%2Bsign.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Our homeschool storage dresser got decorated as well, and holds our Advent candle wreath on top:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DYh-V5vQyoY/VnMvbkemOuI/AAAAAAAAGv8/LIRvBdIhA04/s1600/dresser.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DYh-V5vQyoY/VnMvbkemOuI/AAAAAAAAGv8/LIRvBdIhA04/s640/dresser.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A while back I fell in love with <a href="http://www.320sycamoreblog.com/2012/12/christmas-chalkboard.html">this chalkboard sign</a> from <a href="http://www.320sycamoreblog.com/">320Sycamore</a>. I decided to replicate it on our chalkboard. A favorite verse for Christmas time:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vGZym1D-1UQ/VnMvZgxP7QI/AAAAAAAAGvw/Hs4mmhyGUwc/s1600/dresser%2Bchalkboard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vGZym1D-1UQ/VnMvZgxP7QI/AAAAAAAAGvw/Hs4mmhyGUwc/s640/dresser%2Bchalkboard.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Nearby I simply rested a wreath on our grain sack chair. It is a faux wreath that I embellished with real greenery. Easy!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uN0q-e8TydY/VnMwMhwRz9I/AAAAAAAAGxk/4rPKxoyFoSE/s1600/wreath%2Bon%2Bchair.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uN0q-e8TydY/VnMwMhwRz9I/AAAAAAAAGxk/4rPKxoyFoSE/s640/wreath%2Bon%2Bchair.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Another easy touch was to add juniper sprigs, sparkly reindeer ornaments and vintage escutcheons to my pair of shutters leaning against the wall.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EYFAQpkTNl4/VnMv_KGcacI/AAAAAAAAGxI/fpZFQ6XZJTw/s1600/shutter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EYFAQpkTNl4/VnMv_KGcacI/AAAAAAAAGxI/fpZFQ6XZJTw/s640/shutter.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Lastly, greenery and pine cones were added to this corner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sD5L9mnRFRE/VnMvb0f8xKI/AAAAAAAAGwA/4A9YzXruAP0/s1600/front%2Bchair%2Bseat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sD5L9mnRFRE/VnMvb0f8xKI/AAAAAAAAGwA/4A9YzXruAP0/s640/front%2Bchair%2Bseat.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>

I just love preparing for Christmas during Advent. Happy Gaudete Sunday!<br />
I decided to pare down our decorations this year, and didn't take out nearly as much as previous years. I wanted a simpler look and chose to add a warm & cozy feel with YARN. I'm loving all things yarn-related these days. I even bought some size 50 knitting needles and made a chunky wool throw for our sofa. You'll find me under it many nights these days, watching lots of Xmas movies. <br />
Well, I'll keep the talking to a minimum and share the (many) photos of our living room:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GtcHfXCTmuc/Vm4xM8oYc6I/AAAAAAAAGtA/1a9FEi5JlII/s1600/entry%2Bview%2Btall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GtcHfXCTmuc/Vm4xM8oYc6I/AAAAAAAAGtA/1a9FEi5JlII/s640/entry%2Bview%2Btall.jpg" width="542" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pZowuxHRDTM/Vm4xqRLnzAI/AAAAAAAAGuI/FNGO7Hqcd6c/s1600/sofa%2Btable%2Bview.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pZowuxHRDTM/Vm4xqRLnzAI/AAAAAAAAGuI/FNGO7Hqcd6c/s640/sofa%2Btable%2Bview.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RVN8NoMy75Q/Vm4xV8okWGI/AAAAAAAAGtY/k2xqXxXivmg/s1600/sofa%2Bblanket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RVN8NoMy75Q/Vm4xV8okWGI/AAAAAAAAGtY/k2xqXxXivmg/s640/sofa%2Bblanket.jpg" width="480" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Just love the chunky stitches on my throw</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z1RJKHp2Mo0/Vm4xXJJxXuI/AAAAAAAAGtg/2v3rz7sYXE4/s1600/sofa%2Bshelf%2Bcloseup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z1RJKHp2Mo0/Vm4xXJJxXuI/AAAAAAAAGtg/2v3rz7sYXE4/s400/sofa%2Bshelf%2Bcloseup.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I made a pom-pom garland (hanging under the shelf) with this lovely yarn that reminded me of sheep's fur. It had little puffs throughout.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QQ31fdqKGzc/Vm4xfJHrsnI/AAAAAAAAGtw/MYUH7PtxMbs/s1600/sofa%2Bshelf%2Btall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QQ31fdqKGzc/Vm4xfJHrsnI/AAAAAAAAGtw/MYUH7PtxMbs/s640/sofa%2Bshelf%2Btall.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The deer's head was a fabulous HomeGoods find, and I made the whimsical garland around it by stringing wool felt balls onto crochet thread. I found the felt balls <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sixandgrand">here</a> on Etsy. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tSopccd3xOY/Vm4xbpbX_dI/AAAAAAAAGto/LNZmjUqqihA/s1600/sofa%2Bshelf%2Breindeer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tSopccd3xOY/Vm4xbpbX_dI/AAAAAAAAGto/LNZmjUqqihA/s640/sofa%2Bshelf%2Breindeer.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I also stamped reindeers on some white sacks. The sacks held soap that I had ordered from <a href="http://www.dreamywhitesonline.com/">Dreamy Whites</a>. The large faux pointsettia leaf came from JoAnn's. It's such a soft white velvet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bq0wK9PZDmM/Vm4xgSZiqII/AAAAAAAAGt4/t_H5YgSUCZ8/s1600/sofa%2Bshelf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bq0wK9PZDmM/Vm4xgSZiqII/AAAAAAAAGt4/t_H5YgSUCZ8/s400/sofa%2Bshelf.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Vintage ornaments fill a lovely old bowl on our trunk/coffee table.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ayb-N6WqRhA/Vm4xoULaQxI/AAAAAAAAGuA/Lo66ymcNloI/s1600/sofa%2Btable%2Bornies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ayb-N6WqRhA/Vm4xoULaQxI/AAAAAAAAGuA/Lo66ymcNloI/s400/sofa%2Btable%2Bornies.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
At the front of the room is an old flea market cabinet, very simply decorated with a tree and white horse above.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v0sPELabBJc/Vm4wmRIjR3I/AAAAAAAAGro/AdDsw3gnIOs/s1600/Entry%2Bcabinet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v0sPELabBJc/Vm4wmRIjR3I/AAAAAAAAGro/AdDsw3gnIOs/s640/Entry%2Bcabinet.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9Xy-N_kjk10/Vm4wmbzLimI/AAAAAAAAGrs/Z5WmXRXT0-g/s1600/Entry%2Btable%2Btree.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9Xy-N_kjk10/Vm4wmbzLimI/AAAAAAAAGrs/Z5WmXRXT0-g/s640/Entry%2Btable%2Btree.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
More vintage ornaments on the faux flocked tree, tucked into an ironstone pitcher. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9ywn2Qg00mA/Vm4wryYDpwI/AAAAAAAAGr4/qsqIu3OYdyg/s1600/Entry%2Btree%2Bcloseup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9ywn2Qg00mA/Vm4wryYDpwI/AAAAAAAAGr4/qsqIu3OYdyg/s640/Entry%2Btree%2Bcloseup.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I love how my white horse looks this year, accessorized with greenery, handmade pom-poms using fluffy yarn, and a garland of the same felted wool balls from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sixandgrand">Etsy</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vZJvsSUsAO8/Vm4wmpcHR_I/AAAAAAAAGrw/kyZ85AMmVcY/s1600/Entry%2Btable%2Bhorse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vZJvsSUsAO8/Vm4wmpcHR_I/AAAAAAAAGrw/kyZ85AMmVcY/s640/Entry%2Btable%2Bhorse.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is our tree in the corner. Yarn was used here as garland:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OFlUAyjfuWM/Vm4x5WiUV7I/AAAAAAAAGuo/3N_mkZ3DSFo/s1600/tree.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OFlUAyjfuWM/Vm4x5WiUV7I/AAAAAAAAGuo/3N_mkZ3DSFo/s640/tree.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I thought these vintage fabric sachets for sale in my <a href="http://www.evelynandrose.etsy.com/">Etsy shop</a> would look pretty in a basket nearby:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NrCSYvXF4ng/Vm4x4HA0hsI/AAAAAAAAGuc/Q4wCpEkWTgo/s1600/tree%2Bsachets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NrCSYvXF4ng/Vm4x4HA0hsI/AAAAAAAAGuc/Q4wCpEkWTgo/s400/tree%2Bsachets.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I'm just starting to wrap gifts using wrapping paper and yarn found at the thrift store, as well as my new-favorite reindeer stamp:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dLnG4MG4mKE/Vm4xsgOO1dI/AAAAAAAAGuQ/yC0aX-wqNro/s1600/tree%2Bgifts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dLnG4MG4mKE/Vm4xsgOO1dI/AAAAAAAAGuQ/yC0aX-wqNro/s400/tree%2Bgifts.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The Christmas village is on display:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FQFjAvMFq4I/Vm4x8-LlgnI/AAAAAAAAGuw/i2_lqLtiyVM/s1600/white%2Bvillage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FQFjAvMFq4I/Vm4x8-LlgnI/AAAAAAAAGuw/i2_lqLtiyVM/s640/white%2Bvillage.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rf1NjAZbVds/Vm4x46D0u9I/AAAAAAAAGuk/PM2CckOyrsY/s1600/white%2Bvillage%2Bcloseup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rf1NjAZbVds/Vm4x46D0u9I/AAAAAAAAGuk/PM2CckOyrsY/s400/white%2Bvillage%2Bcloseup.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Lastly, this corner holds our white bookshelf. I kept some books, and just added decorations with a vintage feel. I call it the 'bottle-brush' corner, since that's where my collection of trees and wreaths ended up:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--oXeLt66d_k/Vm4xK1Ljd2I/AAAAAAAAGs8/0mGQYq7FzyU/s1600/corner%2Bshelves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--oXeLt66d_k/Vm4xK1Ljd2I/AAAAAAAAGs8/0mGQYq7FzyU/s640/corner%2Bshelves.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>

<br />
I attempted to make a felted wool sheep that resembled a vintage putz sheep, using more of my woolly yarn as a mane. He's keeping watch over the white house:<br />

Today I'm sharing what our kitchen looks like. There's a lot of blue and white in this room, so it's nice to add pops of red with the branches and apples.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7BC3jlG3xhQ/Vj-nShE8hGI/AAAAAAAAGrI/2TQct-42rN8/s1600/kitchen%2Bin%2Bfall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7BC3jlG3xhQ/Vj-nShE8hGI/AAAAAAAAGrI/2TQct-42rN8/s640/kitchen%2Bin%2Bfall.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I also removed a white slip-cover from this brown chair, and draped hand-monogrammed red-striped towels over it:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yOT4ccRwK1U/Vj-nLuwBkbI/AAAAAAAAGrA/K2g4TPqKhW0/s1600/Kitchen%2Btable%2Bin%2Bfall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yOT4ccRwK1U/Vj-nLuwBkbI/AAAAAAAAGrA/K2g4TPqKhW0/s640/Kitchen%2Btable%2Bin%2Bfall.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The small white dish holds acorns the kids and I gathered on a recent hike, as well as more red leaves from our branches:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Last year I found this great cabinet door at the <a href="http://evelynandrose.blogspot.com/2014/11/holiday-vintage-bazaar-and-meeting.html">Holiday Vintage Bazaar</a>. Recently I decided to spray the middle panel with chalkboard paint. I love how it looks as though it's a framed piece:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c5UbJ2lLivc/Vj-nLjc9C9I/AAAAAAAAGq4/Ocs1qRKuVyQ/s1600/CHalkboard%2Bdoor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c5UbJ2lLivc/Vj-nLjc9C9I/AAAAAAAAGq4/Ocs1qRKuVyQ/s640/CHalkboard%2Bdoor.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I attempted to copy a Thanksgiving-themed message (found on Pinterest) with chalk, and added a free-style pumpkin. Let's just say I never majored in art, but it's fun to <i>try</i> to draw!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Feeling thankful this month!Susan EvelynAndRosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05946796851012314106noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9184498705705663380.post-21318061947545499102015-11-01T19:30:00.000-05:002015-11-01T19:30:00.798-05:00Fall Branches and Dreamy Whites SoapsWe've lived in our home for 10 years, and it hadn't occurred to me to bring some fall branches indoors for decorating. I've seen this done beautifully in many of your blogs and decided to give it a try. Having grown up in New England, I sometimes take the foliage for granted. Two little trees right outside our home bless us with the prettiest red leaves each fall, and this year I AM taking notice. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IK-FnPkGrKg/VjTauaywxkI/AAAAAAAAGqE/JFany_kwm8Q/s1600/Fall%2Bleaves%2Bon%2Btable%2Bcorner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IK-FnPkGrKg/VjTauaywxkI/AAAAAAAAGqE/JFany_kwm8Q/s640/Fall%2Bleaves%2Bon%2Btable%2Bcorner.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Just tucking a few sprigs in mason jars brightens up our dining room table. They blend perfectly with the colors of the apples, too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I1xwzT8dYUc/VjTauilYmQI/AAAAAAAAGqY/YEGk5_3mCpQ/s1600/Fall%2Bleaves%2Bon%2Btable.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I1xwzT8dYUc/VjTauilYmQI/AAAAAAAAGqY/YEGk5_3mCpQ/s640/Fall%2Bleaves%2Bon%2Btable.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The 'homeschool' dresser has a bigger vase filled with large branches. Changing out our white mirror with this framed chalkboard gave the area a more autumnal look. I'm liking it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Thfsmv16TME/VjTaeI3oLeI/AAAAAAAAGqA/vhnIufXzE9M/s1600/Fall%2Bleaves%2Bon%2Bdresser.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Thfsmv16TME/VjTaeI3oLeI/AAAAAAAAGqA/vhnIufXzE9M/s640/Fall%2Bleaves%2Bon%2Bdresser.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have always loved <a href="http://www.dreamywhitesonline.com/">Dreamy Whites</a> style, as I know a lot of you do, and enjoy seeing how Maria is styling her home and shop. There's SO much inspiration to be found! (She's on <a href="http://www.instagram.com/dreamywhiteslifestyle">Instagram</a> much more than her blog these days). Recently I ordered some gorgeous palm oil soaps from her shop. They arrived in the prettiest packaging, which also included a lavender sachet. Each soap was wrapped in these adorable bags:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2PWOv_1_xQk/VjTadTtyVnI/AAAAAAAAGp8/M_DV0ArDcBc/s1600/Dreamy%2BWhites%2Bgoodies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2PWOv_1_xQk/VjTadTtyVnI/AAAAAAAAGp8/M_DV0ArDcBc/s640/Dreamy%2BWhites%2Bgoodies.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Aren't they lovely? I don't even want to really use them for soap, just admire them. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eUYsmtTr1E4/VjTac89NGBI/AAAAAAAAGp0/71CnEyDDe5E/s1600/Dreamy%2Bwhites%2Bsoaps.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eUYsmtTr1E4/VjTac89NGBI/AAAAAAAAGp0/71CnEyDDe5E/s640/Dreamy%2Bwhites%2Bsoaps.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I put one by the kitchen sink nevertheless, and the rest on our vintage shoe rack:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hUEMTtWjhnk/VjTa0xoQRuI/AAAAAAAAGqg/_PTdjSE3_1M/s1600/Soaps%2Bon%2Bshoe%2Brack.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hUEMTtWjhnk/VjTa0xoQRuI/AAAAAAAAGqg/_PTdjSE3_1M/s640/Soaps%2Bon%2Bshoe%2Brack.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Soaps and ironstone are a perfect combination.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_RoItku1TAc/VjTauk9xe3I/AAAAAAAAGqU/J-H_NRCHX_M/s1600/Soaps%2Bon%2Bironstone.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_RoItku1TAc/VjTauk9xe3I/AAAAAAAAGqU/J-H_NRCHX_M/s400/Soaps%2Bon%2Bironstone.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
What about you? Would you actually use these or just admire them? <br />
<br />
I wish I could admire our fall branches a bit longer, but they are already starting to lose their leaves. Better grab that rake and get outdoors....<br />
Happy fall everyone!Susan EvelynAndRosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05946796851012314106noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9184498705705663380.post-8714707952620428822015-10-25T19:00:00.000-04:002015-10-25T19:00:03.900-04:00Fall decor in Living RoomWell, the leaves have finally been turning colors in New England! We had a late foliage season due to such a mild early fall, but now the brilliant hues don't disappoint. I've made some updates to our living room for fall as well. The biggest change was the addition of this gorgeous rug in front of our fireplace.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b--x86_dD1A/Vip2Hy4ELSI/AAAAAAAAGpM/wgCR0SrdKG0/s1600/Living%2Broom%2Bfall%2Bfireplace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b--x86_dD1A/Vip2Hy4ELSI/AAAAAAAAGpM/wgCR0SrdKG0/s640/Living%2Broom%2Bfall%2Bfireplace.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I found it at <a href="http://www.homegoods.com/">Home Goods</a> for only $99! I love how its' colors blend in with our room.<br />
The coffee sack pillow covers I made last year have returned for fall, as well as these dried hydrangeas that have been around for a couple of seasons:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zTicUbmyKv4/Vip2OmJ8GmI/AAAAAAAAGpg/gkmV-UlK9XM/s1600/Living%2Broom%2Bfall%2Bhydrangeas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zTicUbmyKv4/Vip2OmJ8GmI/AAAAAAAAGpg/gkmV-UlK9XM/s640/Living%2Broom%2Bfall%2Bhydrangeas.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Although I'm not a huge fan of orange, the mantel did get a pop of this color with pumpkins:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_Ir3SBGIBFU/Vip2OGzuflI/AAAAAAAAGpc/yPLQBGtlXj0/s1600/Living%2Broom%2Bfall%2Bmantel.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_Ir3SBGIBFU/Vip2OGzuflI/AAAAAAAAGpc/yPLQBGtlXj0/s400/Living%2Broom%2Bfall%2Bmantel.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
However, my favorite pumpkin by far is this green/blue Mother Hubbard squash!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uPff_DuYqsk/Vip2GfyCbNI/AAAAAAAAGpE/GGaaXwbBeEQ/s1600/Living%2Broom%2Bfall%2Bdesk%2Bcloseup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uPff_DuYqsk/Vip2GfyCbNI/AAAAAAAAGpE/GGaaXwbBeEQ/s640/Living%2Broom%2Bfall%2Bdesk%2Bcloseup.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
It rests on our corner desk, where you see more coffee sack fabric. I guess fall just reminds me of coffee!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jhXj43M49bU/Vip2G1IpYFI/AAAAAAAAGpI/0WPXnJBEOUk/s1600/Living%2Broom%2Bfall%2Bdesk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jhXj43M49bU/Vip2G1IpYFI/AAAAAAAAGpI/0WPXnJBEOUk/s640/Living%2Broom%2Bfall%2Bdesk.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Thanks to you lovely friends that left encouraging comments on my last post. I'll keep you updated on our homeschooling adventure. So far it has definitely been worthwhile. Happy fall!Susan EvelynAndRosehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05946796851012314106noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9184498705705663380.post-14308993209423832982015-10-11T18:30:00.000-04:002015-10-11T18:30:48.824-04:00Homeschool News and Catching UpHello dear blogging friends, it's hard to believe that 3 months have past since my last blog post. That is a record for me! Although I've been a little active on Instagram, I miss catching up with all of you on this forum. So I will do my best to return to interacting more in blogland this fall. <br />
This little hobby of mine got put on the back burner due to a huge decision our family made this summer. I'll tell you a little about it as I post photos of changes to our dining room....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DnuKyzxyNSY/VhrPEHX0eCI/AAAAAAAAGmc/bYQfQL01ooc/s1600/Buffet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DnuKyzxyNSY/VhrPEHX0eCI/AAAAAAAAGmc/bYQfQL01ooc/s640/Buffet.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This craigslist dresser now stores all our books and supplies for HOMESCHOOLING. Many factors went into our decision to homeschool our two children, but the most important was to teach our children the Catholic faith and all its' beautiful truth. We now have the freedom to tailor a curriculum at a pace for each child and to enjoy spending more time with them. Since beginning in August, we have been so impressed with the curriculum we are using, purchased from <a href="http://www.chcweb.com/">Catholic Heritage Curricula</a>. It is rooted in all the beauty of our faith. I am learning right along with the children, discovering things I never knew, which makes me appreciate our faith even more. <br />
<br />

<br />
They still get to see many of their friends at extra-curricular activities and playdates, as well as meeting new friends in a homeschool hiking class where they learn about nature and the ecosystem.<br />
<br />
Each morning we ask Saint Anne de Beaupre (Mary's mother) to pray for us. We visited her shrine in Quebec City, Canada during the summer, and took home this beautiful little figurine which was blessed for us. <br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">We only have one chance to raise our children,
in a limited period of time on this earth.
What a gift to be able to spend more vital hours with them teaching, learning, playing and praying together. Less time running around in a flurry will be
time well spent. We will never regret
spending more time with our children. </span><br />

<br />
And so each morning we meet here in this room, say some prayers, the Pledge of Allegiance, and begin to learn something new. Each day brings interesting discoveries, discussions, and yes - challenges. But we're together and open to what God is telling us.<br />

I think it may be time to move these bushes into a sunnier area. :(<br />
Once these two bloomed, I made the best of showcasing them in various rooms. Here they are mixing in with the dried lavender in the living room:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LSEcCcGeKsI/VZVEV62v23I/AAAAAAAAGlc/dqZ0uWG2160/s1600/Peonies%2Bin%2Bliving%2Broom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LSEcCcGeKsI/VZVEV62v23I/AAAAAAAAGlc/dqZ0uWG2160/s640/Peonies%2Bin%2Bliving%2Broom.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
And on the side table in the dining room:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8941a0_qib4/VZVEPU00jXI/AAAAAAAAGlQ/wN1FO9Rp1hU/s1600/Peonies%2Bin%2Bdining%2Broom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8941a0_qib4/VZVEPU00jXI/AAAAAAAAGlQ/wN1FO9Rp1hU/s640/Peonies%2Bin%2Bdining%2Broom.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--EH5XjOKGpk/VZVEPTucUkI/AAAAAAAAGlU/94aCmlV4xik/s1600/Peonies%2Bcloseup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--EH5XjOKGpk/VZVEPTucUkI/AAAAAAAAGlU/94aCmlV4xik/s640/Peonies%2Bcloseup.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
They looked so pretty sitting on the kitchen table, too:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4XUQ6Eq7FRk/VZVEPBmqIKI/AAAAAAAAGlY/8fTOeRqp34A/s1600/Peonies%2Bin%2Bkitchen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4XUQ6Eq7FRk/VZVEPBmqIKI/AAAAAAAAGlY/8fTOeRqp34A/s640/Peonies%2Bin%2Bkitchen.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
These beauties have since passed on, but the good thing about having a blog is we get to revisit our faded flowers.<br />
<br />
I also finally finished a miniature crochet banner I was working on. It hangs against our living room radiator. I love the texture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3yNnyEfiTQ8/VZVEXENIV8I/AAAAAAAAGlo/UJsBzj_oYCM/s1600/crochet%2Bbanner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3yNnyEfiTQ8/VZVEXENIV8I/AAAAAAAAGlo/UJsBzj_oYCM/s400/crochet%2Bbanner.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Hope everyone's July is going great so far!<br />

Summer is here! Our children had their last day of school Friday and now the summer fun commences. I love these long, sunny days, and plan to carve out some time for creating as well as fun activities.<br />
I wanted to let you know about some recent goods added to my<a href="http://evelynandrose.etsy.com/"> Etsy shop</a>. I can't believe Etsy is celebrating its' 10th anniversary! I've been enjoying selling there for almost 4 years now and I want to thank everyone who has visited my shop, even just to peek. :)<br />
<br />
I love the smell of lavender and these sachets are the latest to my collection:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sQdwG8fZV3w/VYWTkNTPcbI/AAAAAAAAGkM/41foH7tL8wQ/s1600/Red%2Bfloral%2Bsachets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sQdwG8fZV3w/VYWTkNTPcbI/AAAAAAAAGkM/41foH7tL8wQ/s400/Red%2Bfloral%2Bsachets.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The red floral fabric is just lovely, and I've added a patch of vintage French laundry tape to each.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xrak61t3yEI/VYWTUzkUYGI/AAAAAAAAGj4/P-bL3BQGTMM/s1600/Red%2BFrench%2Bsachet2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xrak61t3yEI/VYWTUzkUYGI/AAAAAAAAGj4/P-bL3BQGTMM/s400/Red%2BFrench%2Bsachet2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NTe8KVBQJ7Q/VYWTU2XiSwI/AAAAAAAAGj0/GSU_6506wPc/s1600/Red%2BFrench%2Bsachet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NTe8KVBQJ7Q/VYWTU2XiSwI/AAAAAAAAGj0/GSU_6506wPc/s400/Red%2BFrench%2Bsachet.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've listed two of these, but I do have two more that I just need to stuff with lavender.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1l4Hzx73RZg/VYWTh2t8NkI/AAAAAAAAGkI/7ACPr5KhS-Y/s1600/Red%2Bsachet%2Bcloseup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1l4Hzx73RZg/VYWTh2t8NkI/AAAAAAAAGkI/7ACPr5KhS-Y/s400/Red%2Bsachet%2Bcloseup.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
They fit right in with my other sachets for sale:<br />
<br />

<br />
The Flea Market Finds section of my shop has some great new treasures as well:<br />

I can't believe how fast May flew by. It's been busy here. For starters, I've been having fun re-stocking my <a href="http://www.evelynandrose.etsy.com/">Etsy shop</a> with vintage treasures and handmade pieces. The creative muse is on overdrive! Also, my family had a fun expedition to the local flea market and I found something I've long been searching for - a vintage wood trunk. Actually, my husband spotted it when we were about to leave. I wanted the trunk to be something we both liked, and this one fit all our criteria. It is definitely old, well-made of solid wood, large, and has a flat top to double as a coffee table and storage.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7-DPD3e1Bss/VWyIkmYwUQI/AAAAAAAAGjE/0tY-3s7fS8U/s1600/Trunk%2Bafter%2Bside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7-DPD3e1Bss/VWyIkmYwUQI/AAAAAAAAGjE/0tY-3s7fS8U/s640/Trunk%2Bafter%2Bside.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-haoB45y6V4A/VWyItZxz2ZI/AAAAAAAAGjU/dnVDjSb77YQ/s1600/Trunk%2Bafter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-haoB45y6V4A/VWyItZxz2ZI/AAAAAAAAGjU/dnVDjSb77YQ/s640/Trunk%2Bafter.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I painted the trunk using <a href="http://www.missmustardseed.com/">Miss Mustard Seed'</a>s Milk Paint for the first time. It came out just as I had envisioned with a nice chippy patina. I ended up mixing equal parts <a href="http://www.missmustardseedsmilkpaint.com/">Shutter Gray with Grain Sack</a> to get a light grayish color. Love it!<br />
<br />
Here is a photo of the trunk prior to painting. I may replace those dirty old rope handles with something new eventually:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ug5qHks2jhw/VWyIq7TNCNI/AAAAAAAAGjM/7GsufVt3HPc/s1600/Trunk%2Bbefore.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ug5qHks2jhw/VWyIq7TNCNI/AAAAAAAAGjM/7GsufVt3HPc/s400/Trunk%2Bbefore.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Although the wood was definitely worn down, I discovered as I painted that I did need to sand some patchy areas that still had a bit of glossy sheen. The milk paint had fallen right off of those areas once it dried. But the second coat of milk paint stayed after I sanded. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bCETQDeidu8/VWyIitpD48I/AAAAAAAAGi8/-gRO-e_ykWM/s1600/Trunk%2Bafter%2Bfront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bCETQDeidu8/VWyIitpD48I/AAAAAAAAGi8/-gRO-e_ykWM/s640/Trunk%2Bafter%2Bfront.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are some more lilacs to share with you...bunches of the white variety in our dining room:<br />

<br />
They smelled wonderful while they lasted! <br />
<br />
Another fun outing our family had this May was to a book sale at the library. I got some wonderful vintage books there and this one is my favorite - a vintage Charles Dickens' children's book!<br />
I adore the sweet cover:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-53b9Vm0cg6I/VWyISyrTweI/AAAAAAAAGiY/tNvB2nNeoIc/s1600/Dickens%2Bbook%2Bcover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-53b9Vm0cg6I/VWyISyrTweI/AAAAAAAAGiY/tNvB2nNeoIc/s640/Dickens%2Bbook%2Bcover.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Inside are the most delightful illustrations as well:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

<br />
<br />
Speaking of sweet....the best news to share is that our daughter received her First Communion in May! Tears welled as I watched her receive Jesus for the first time in the Sacrament of Eucharist. My heart just...swelled. I love that girl.<br />

Today is an absolutely gorgeous spring day and I've got all things floral on my mind. A trip to the garden store has me inspired, as well as an online trip to <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.minted.com/">Minted</a>!<br />
The folks at Minted recently contacted me and I was delighted to visit their amazing website. I've been familiar with their products, but this latest visit has me blown away by all the new offerings. <br />
Did you know they not only carry designs for business cards and holiday cards, but also gorgeous wedding themed cards, gifts and beautiful art prints from a diverse group of talented artists? <br />
<br />
This lovely spring floral art print caught my eye. It is called 'Meander' and designed by Betty Hatchet:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FQxF2ZQ5rlc/VWDd7gWVwRI/AAAAAAAAGhM/TzpX41HvSSU/s1600/meander%2Bprint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FQxF2ZQ5rlc/VWDd7gWVwRI/AAAAAAAAGhM/TzpX41HvSSU/s400/meander%2Bprint.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Image via <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.minted.com/">Minted</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Another surprise I discovered while perusing was that one of my favorite artists, Olivia Kanaley, is a designer for Minted. I have always admired Olivia's work for many years, first discovering her via her contributions to Victoria magazine. Now I can continue to admire her work on Minted and via her fabulous contributions on their <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.minted.com/julep">Julep</a> blog. Her posts can be found <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.minted.com/julep/author/oliviakanaley/">here</a>.<br />
<br />
I am crushing on these fabric <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.minted.com/julep/2015/02/15/knotted-fabric-wrapped-favor-boxes/">favor boxes</a> she posted about (Minted offers fabrics, too):<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-thz5ERe-24Q/VWDdhonS0XI/AAAAAAAAGg8/Clunv0Q4-J0/s1600/fabric%2Bboxes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-thz5ERe-24Q/VWDdhonS0XI/AAAAAAAAGg8/Clunv0Q4-J0/s640/fabric%2Bboxes.jpg" width="426" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Image via <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.minted.com/">Minted</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
There are a plethora of designs to choose from for wedding invitations, cards, save-the-date postcards, etc. in the latest <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.minted.com/wedding-invitations">wedding collection</a>.<br />
I love that they offer numerous choices in their search criteria, and you know I clicked the 'Vintage' option straight away! This design by Cadence Paige just stole my heart:<br />

<br />
My brother-in-law is getting married this year, and I was so excited to discover that his save-the-date postcard and shower invitation were designed on Minted! I knew I recognized those from our fridge. This is the design he used for save-the-date:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZXiVF6thgNQ/VWDdhE_m8xI/AAAAAAAAGg0/G0vqB5di4YU/s1600/wedding%2Bsave%2Bdate.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZXiVF6thgNQ/VWDdhE_m8xI/AAAAAAAAGg0/G0vqB5di4YU/s400/wedding%2Bsave%2Bdate.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Image via <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.minted.com/">Minted</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I adore how it looks like a chalkboard sign - there are many designs like that available.<br />
<br />
Well, you know what I'll be doing this November...spending a lot of time on <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.minted.com/">Minted</a> choosing a holiday card for our family. And there's always our next celebration to plan for. :)<br />
<br />
Thanks for visiting.<br />

We made a stop at the White Elephant Shop, which also sells candy you can scoop into bags (that was the selling point for my girl). <br />
It was nice to go thrifting again after such a long winter, and I found some lovely little things. But before I show them, I want to remind you today's the last chance to enter my giveaway <a href="http://evelynandrose.blogspot.com/2015/04/spring-giveaway.html">here</a>. I'll pick a winner by early tomorrow morning!<br />

I can't pass up a cute ironstone milk pitcher, and these two tiny ones were perfect for single servings. There were a lot of them at the store, which makes me think they came from a hotel, diner or B&B?<br />

I am so pleased with the article and the photos that were used. Last May, <a href="http://www.fifioneillprairiestyle.com/">Fifi O'Neill</a> and <a href="http://www.marklohmanphoto.com/">Mark Lohman</a> visited our home to style and photograph it. I was on cloud 9 and yet so nervous! (you can read about the visit <a href="http://evelynandrose.blogspot.com/2014/06/fifi-and-mark-visited.html">here</a>) But Fifi and Mark put me at ease, and I am thrilled with the pretty results of their talents in this issue: <br />

Our record snowfall this winter has finally started to melt, and I see the light at the end of the tunnel - spring!<br />
<br />
This is the time of year many of you see cherry and dogwood trees begin to blossom. It's not happening here yet (no surprise), but that won't stop me from enjoying the look of them.<br />
I found this great tutorial on Pinterest on how to make paper flowers for branches.<br />
You can find it <a href="http://designeddecor.com/making-paper-flowers-tissue-paper/">here.</a> Of course I had plenty of fallen branches strewn across our yard after so many blizzards this winter. I used a 2-inch paper punch, white and pink tissue paper, and some hot glue.<br />
<br />
Here's the result:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cz3Y_6HZIxE/VQl4g_MFnKI/AAAAAAAAGa0/HIlVIKCpb3E/s1600/Paper%2Bflowers%2Bin%2Bbucket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cz3Y_6HZIxE/VQl4g_MFnKI/AAAAAAAAGa0/HIlVIKCpb3E/s1600/Paper%2Bflowers%2Bin%2Bbucket.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i6GMBc5AKDY/VQl4m9bqFPI/AAAAAAAAGbI/CEsvKPkyHKw/s1600/paper%2Bflowers%2Bon%2Bbranches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i6GMBc5AKDY/VQl4m9bqFPI/AAAAAAAAGbI/CEsvKPkyHKw/s1600/paper%2Bflowers%2Bon%2Bbranches.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PS_CTLzFiig/VQl4gzfNdsI/AAAAAAAAGa4/dXel3CYwJ3E/s1600/Paper%2Bflowers%2Bclose%2Bup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PS_CTLzFiig/VQl4gzfNdsI/AAAAAAAAGa4/dXel3CYwJ3E/s1600/Paper%2Bflowers%2Bclose%2Bup.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I love how they turned out and would have made more flowers, if it weren't for a bit of struggle with my pink tissue paper getting stuck in my paper punch. :)<br />
<br />
I did manage to pick up some real flowers at the grocery store this winter to cheer our dining room buffet as well:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iGEL2-CNETA/VQl4gk199SI/AAAAAAAAGaw/ZAK4J_O0Ii4/s1600/Winter%2Bflowers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iGEL2-CNETA/VQl4gk199SI/AAAAAAAAGaw/ZAK4J_O0Ii4/s1600/Winter%2Bflowers.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And these faux roses were a steal at the thrift store - I think they look realistic, do you?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L0ZGrVA2eP8/VQl4nkQIamI/AAAAAAAAGbQ/VNkEXKF-UT4/s1600/winter%2Bfaux%2Broses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L0ZGrVA2eP8/VQl4nkQIamI/AAAAAAAAGbQ/VNkEXKF-UT4/s1600/winter%2Bfaux%2Broses.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Spring is in the air...I just know it!<br />

These days you'll find me indoors trying to keep busy, as we have 3 feet of snow outside and more predicted for this weekend. Uuuugh.<br />
Well, at least we've got Valentine's day to look forward to next week. I thought I'd share some cute Valentine card and gift bag ideas with you. The combination of brown paper and light pink really appeals to me this year, so that's what I used. <br />
Here are some of the supplies I started with:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bQbPn5RVLOA/VNUEoBrglgI/AAAAAAAAGZw/HNnrhePgOms/s1600/Valentine%2Bsupplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bQbPn5RVLOA/VNUEoBrglgI/AAAAAAAAGZw/HNnrhePgOms/s1600/Valentine%2Bsupplies.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The pink heart straws, burlap chalk tags and pink jute twine all came from <a href="http://www.target.com/">Target</a>'s dollar section, The 'tickets' by Tim Holtz were found at <a href="http://www.acmoore.com/">AC Moore</a>, as well as the plain white paper hearts. I jazzed them up with fabric patches and stamped messages (the same fabric patches I used on my <a href="http://evelynandrose.blogspot.com/2015/01/love-and-lavender-is-in-air.html">lavender hearts</a>). The tiny alphabet stamps also came from AC Moore:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uEcescmz8J4/VNUEk43hE2I/AAAAAAAAGZs/QoyQ1gQnU_c/s1600/Valentine%2Bhearts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uEcescmz8J4/VNUEk43hE2I/AAAAAAAAGZs/QoyQ1gQnU_c/s1600/Valentine%2Bhearts.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
First I painted some brown kraft card stock (also from AC Moore) with pink hearts to make Valentine cards. The 'Cameo Pink' acrylic paint was only 50 cents at <a href="http://www.walmart.com/">Walmart</a>. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_XHtlVT4w8A/VNUEbdPLb-I/AAAAAAAAGZM/gjM4JjlCGFg/s1600/Valentine%2Bcard%2Bsupplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_XHtlVT4w8A/VNUEbdPLb-I/AAAAAAAAGZM/gjM4JjlCGFg/s1600/Valentine%2Bcard%2Bsupplies.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Next I simply glued my white hearts to the cards. I'll be personalizing these later this week...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D_-BjlKn2iI/VNUEkjKJxcI/AAAAAAAAGZo/8XQk7JDwyPg/s1600/Valentine%2Bcards.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D_-BjlKn2iI/VNUEkjKJxcI/AAAAAAAAGZo/8XQk7JDwyPg/s1600/Valentine%2Bcards.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AgJqUttbJCU/VNUEbg9bXMI/AAAAAAAAGZU/dopuLInn9X8/s1600/Valentine%2Bcard%2Bcloseup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AgJqUttbJCU/VNUEbg9bXMI/AAAAAAAAGZU/dopuLInn9X8/s1600/Valentine%2Bcard%2Bcloseup.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I decided to use large brown lunch bags I had on hand for Valentine gift bags. I was having fun painting those free-hand rustic-looking hearts. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-noy4KCeJyLw/VNUEjzoYYmI/AAAAAAAAGZc/Bo7RpFMRdt8/s1600/Valentine%2Bgift%2Bbags.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-noy4KCeJyLw/VNUEjzoYYmI/AAAAAAAAGZc/Bo7RpFMRdt8/s1600/Valentine%2Bgift%2Bbags.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The pink twine was sewn into the top of the bags, and also holds the straws in place. Next I just glued the sweet tickets to the hearts and hung my chalkboard tags over the straws. Pretty simple and easy, just waiting for me to fill these with treats!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JbsJEKOh3EY/VNUEbak1tpI/AAAAAAAAGZQ/vduty8Nhdrw/s1600/Valentine%2Bbags%2Bcloseup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JbsJEKOh3EY/VNUEbak1tpI/AAAAAAAAGZQ/vduty8Nhdrw/s1600/Valentine%2Bbags%2Bcloseup.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Have a great weekend everyone, and enjoy your Valentine's day preparations - I know I am!<br />

May as well keep busy! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G5Qf-2NWz_o/VMZvLu_nrrI/AAAAAAAAGWc/dh2cYmFRM2A/s1600/sachets%2Bin%2Bbasket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G5Qf-2NWz_o/VMZvLu_nrrI/AAAAAAAAGWc/dh2cYmFRM2A/s1600/sachets%2Bin%2Bbasket.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I had such fun making these unique sachets, because I used fabric from the delightful Cabbages and Roses' Northcote Range line. This cottage style fabric adorns the 'patches' on the hearts. Sometimes our hearts do need a little mending, right?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OhACW1niTdk/VMZvBq3B4gI/AAAAAAAAGWE/mI4MCuUy13o/s1600/heart%2Bsachet%2Bpink.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OhACW1niTdk/VMZvBq3B4gI/AAAAAAAAGWE/mI4MCuUy13o/s1600/heart%2Bsachet%2Bpink.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
They smell lovely, filled with soothing lavender...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qZwHrpeG1do/VMZuqXFHGEI/AAAAAAAAGVI/S51Hwwibeg0/s1600/blue%2Bsachets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qZwHrpeG1do/VMZuqXFHGEI/AAAAAAAAGVI/S51Hwwibeg0/s1600/blue%2Bsachets.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zpg1GdSG81A/VMZvKC4LvGI/AAAAAAAAGWU/Vgo4WSsWJYw/s1600/heart%2Bsachets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zpg1GdSG81A/VMZvKC4LvGI/AAAAAAAAGWU/Vgo4WSsWJYw/s1600/heart%2Bsachets.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
They'd fit right in for Valentine's Day. I couldn't stop myself with the heart theme, so I also made two cute heart garlands - this time with white cotton and stuffing, and of course the sweet 'patches'!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N1O5B_3r814/VMZu4YKNqEI/AAAAAAAAGV0/uo5KcwNHP7g/s1600/heart%2Bgarland.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N1O5B_3r814/VMZu4YKNqEI/AAAAAAAAGV0/uo5KcwNHP7g/s1600/heart%2Bgarland.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-82Y6hi6kG-s/VMZup3hbQRI/AAAAAAAAGVE/pHZZ-foR01E/s1600/heart%2Bgarland%2B2%2Bhearts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-82Y6hi6kG-s/VMZup3hbQRI/AAAAAAAAGVE/pHZZ-foR01E/s1600/heart%2Bgarland%2B2%2Bhearts.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I have one garland hanging in our living room for now...it may be difficult to sell it. :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IggpNLLhenk/VMZuwd31b-I/AAAAAAAAGVc/juOgd2Bp2kY/s1600/heart%2Bgarland%2Bcorner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IggpNLLhenk/VMZuwd31b-I/AAAAAAAAGVc/juOgd2Bp2kY/s1600/heart%2Bgarland%2Bcorner.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>

<br />
It all started with these lovely supplies...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--dWtvd2jEug/VMZusQgbhhI/AAAAAAAAGVU/eWqrv4Lm4rA/s1600/fabric%2Bsupplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--dWtvd2jEug/VMZusQgbhhI/AAAAAAAAGVU/eWqrv4Lm4rA/s1600/fabric%2Bsupplies.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Well, if I'm going to be snowed in, may as well be surrounded by pretties. <br />
Stay safe and warm this week, friends!<br />

The images for the book were photographed in Ms. Finnanger's cozy log cabin with her younger sister as the model. I love the homey feel of it throughout. The latest fabrics are pale and pretty, yet rustic.<br />
Aren't these pillows scrumptious?<br />

And these miniature hearts look absolutely adorable stacked on the cake rings. <br />

The Tilda books never cease to inspire. The pretty angel dolls lined up all in a row have the sweetest dresses:<br />

I tackled the job of making three of these for 3 precious newborn nieces we welcomed into our large family last year. Here are my angels before they 'flew' to their new homes at Christmas:<br />

<br />
What are you making these days? The creative bugs always thrives in January, I think. :)<br />
